Creepy crawly food scares

Update 6 Sep 2016: Famous Jalan Besar Mutton Soup becomes Mickey Mouse Mutton Soup for a Night

Instead of being grateful that a mutton soup stall gave him extra ingredients in his tasty bowl of soup, this foodie, Jeremy, publicly complained about it.

Oh, ok now we can see why – the extra ingredient was a rat.

Those that know soup know that it’s usually boiled for several hours to bring out the flavor, so we’re wondering how long that rat was in the pot!

S’pore lady finds ‘cockroach’ in crab, restaurant claim it’s crab eyes & whiskers

Eugenia Koh was having dinner on Thursday (Jul 14) at Ippudo Ramen with her boyfriend, when she spotted what she thought was a cockroach in her soft shelled fried crab bun.

She understandably freaked out, and her boyfriend for some reason, after hearing her exclamations on the presence of a cockroach, took said cockroach bun and ate it, mentioned that it tasted weird before going on with dinner, and eventually paid $124 for the meal.

Koh, the person who was convinced she had found a cockroach fried into her crab, went along with it.

Angling for Free Makan? Restaurant Takes on Food Blogger over Cockroach in Crab “Blackmail”

An eye for an eye and the world goes blind.

But a cockroach for an eye and maybe can get a free makan worth S$124?

Japanese restaurant chain Ippudo has taken on food blogger Eugenia Koh over claims that a cockroach was embedded in a soft-shell crab served at one its outlets.

White worms found again in McDonald’s meal, restaurant looking into fresh complaint

Facebook user Angela Qiqi shared some videos and pictures of white worms in her McDonald’s meal. Angela said that the incident happened in the fast food chain’s outlet in West Coast Park. She only discovered the worms after she finished her fillet-o-fish sandwich. The worms were alive and crawling in the videos she shared.

Angela claimed that the McDonald’s staff appeared nonchalant when she reported the matter to them, and tried to solve the problem by giving her a refund for the meal.

She further said: “(I) already told the staff there to check their kitchen and food so that it won’t affect others, but they don’t seem to take it seriously. They still operate as usual and didn’t seem any action taken at all… Quite disappointed

Update 2 Jun 2016: BIG PIECE OF COCKROACH WING FOUND IN EGG PRATA, STAFF SAYS ITS NO BIG DEAL

But nothing can beat what we found in my girlfriend's prata at Naj Bugis Restaurant opposite Bugis Junction. My gf was nicely eating her egg prata when she felt something piercing the sides of her mouth. She spat the pieces out and was shocked and distressed to find a cockaroach wing inside.

When we alerted the foreigner staffs about this, they said such accidents were common and there's nothing to be surprised about (in their own country maybe). They said they'll just settle this matter by making a new prata. They also said the owner of the shop is working with MOM and a grassroots leader.

Disgusted, my gf and I just walked off without further ado. We have a message to the owner: stop pretending to be a devout muslim by displaying Quranic verses all over the shop and blasting Quran chanting loudly. The holy Prophet said that honesty and integrity is far more important. Don't be like Rahayu Mahzam and Halimah Yaacob!

DINER FINDS PADLOCK IN HIS ASSAM FISHHEAD, AUNTY DOES EPIC CUSTOMER RECOVERY

I was eating my lunch at a coffeeshop. I ordered assam fish head and other vegetable dishs with rice. All was going well and it was quite delicious when my spoon hit something hard with a 'ding'.

I thoght I heard wrong so I move my spoon again and i heard the same metallic sound. I dig into the assam and to my horror i found a padlock inside the dish. Is this the secret ingredient to their delicious assam?

Thankfully the aunty was super apologetic and shyly said 'no wonder i cannot find my cupboard lock just now'. She refund my money and tell me if I fall ill these few days to find her for medical fees. I thanked her and went on my way.

ANOTHER WORM FOUND IN SQ INFLIGHT HINDU VEGETARIAN MEAL

I preferred SQ for my corporate/business travels and indeed good flight and good services. But surprised last week when received an add-on with my Hindu special meal in flight SQ 5367 which took off from Kochi India at 10:55PM IST 21st Feb 2016.

My trip was from Kochi to Los Angeles(SQ 5367 & SQ 12). Immediately reported the incident to crew and crew supervisor attended who offered me a $75(not sure for what). She told me the airlines will call as soon we land at LA , but no response yet even after I placed a complaint through their website. Never again!!!

Singapore Airlines prides itself as a world class airline yet worms have been found in their inflight meal. Last week, another worm was found in their inflight meal aboard SQ227. Do you think the service of this 'world class' airline is dropping? Will you feel safe to eat the food served on SQ? Tell us what you think.

WORM FOUND IN SQ227 INFLIGHT MEAL FROM S'PORE TO MELBOURNE

I used to like Singapore Airlines until today.

The crew apologize and said they submitted a complain to the catering company. But a WORM in my MEAL is unacceptable! SQ227 Singapore to Melbourne this morning. I'll keep posting until someone gives me a solution.... Now I have stomach cramps and felt ill at landing.

WORM is visible on top of servillete and 2 crew members apologize But is honestly disgusting.

Dumpling Distress: “Big-Eyed” Worm Found in Vegetarian Bak Chang!

The bak chang was meant to be a surprise for her husband, but the poor chap got so startled after he took a bite and found a worm inside that he instantly went to the toilet to vomit!

And to top things off, the bak chang was supposed to be “vegetarian” too.

Luckily for Mdm Liu, her husband didn’t bite into the worm – which she described as about 1cm long and had big eyes.

WARNING: You’re probably going to be pretty disgusted reading this.

On Tuesday morning, Mr Jasper Lee, 27, IT freelancer, filmed this stomach-churning video of maggots in his McDonald’s breakfast. The clip quickly went viral and made everybody’s stomach turn. Ms Patricia Yong, McDonald’s Singapore’s director of operations, trotted out the usual cliches: The fast-food chain would be “looking into this matter very closely”, adding that “food quality and safety are our top priority and we take all customer feedback very seriously”.

Here are five recent disgusting food moments in Singapore. And yes, right after this, we’re going back to watching cute kittens on YouTube.

Just last month some worms and maggots were found in a MacDonald's breakfast set and McSpicy burger, and this afternoon, another Stomper found a worm in his brinjal bought from the Yong Tau Fu stall at the Raffles City food court today.

Stomper Worminbringal said: "I was almost done with the bowl of noodles and decided to dip the fried brinjal in the chilly sauce and put the whole juicy brinjal in my mouth. "But it was too big, so I had to bite it first. "Cooked brinjal is usually soft and juicy inside but there was a crunch in this brinjal.

WORMS FOUND IN THOMSON MEDICAL CONFINEMENT SOUP

I came home this evening and found my wife crying. I asked her what happened and she showed me this. Apparently we had ordered confinement food delivery via Thomson Medical. This evening after drinking her soup, my wife realized there were foreign objects inside the soup.

I have just lodged a complain to National Environment Agency - NEA on this and you and I jolly well know how "FAST" these people work.

I hope you can help me share this to alert all other mothers who are currently taking their confinement meals. Please check carefully before you take your food.

THOMSON PLAZA SUPERMARKET SOLD ITALIAN MACARONI CRAWLING WITH WORMS & INSECTS

Recently my mum bought packet of Arrghi Italy Macaroni from a Supermarket at Thomson Plaza. When she is going to open the packet, she found that macaroni are all spoilt though expiry date is far at 2017.

Even worms can seen strolling in between.

I suspected during the process of packaging, the packers mixed the earlier batch of leftover macaroni with the new one and resulted it becoming all spoilt. I had complainted to the related supermarket today too.

She can just told us that its just a small flying insect and cause we are seated near to the door the swing door open and close and its normal that this will happen. My cousin and i was more shock when we hear this.

MAGGOTS FOUND IN BIG BREAKFAST SET BOUGHT FROM MCDONALDS HOUGANG BLK 208

Yesterday morning (20 October 2015), IT freelancer Jasper Lee got a nasty surprise as he tucked into the Big Breakfast set which he ordered through McDelivery. He had taken a few bites before spotting something moving on his sausage patty. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be worms. Jasper lost his appetite after that and made a complaint with McDonalds over the disgusting incident.

This tainted Big Breakfast set was delivered from a nearby McDonalds outlet at Block 208 Hougang Street 21. McDonalds staff has been in touch with Mr Lee and were prompt in taking the food remains for lab testing. Jasper speculates that the maggots or worms may have come from the scrambled eggs as when he cut into it, there were quite a number of worms crawling in it.

McDonald's Singapore Director of Operations, Patricia Yong said:
"Let me emphasise that food quality and safety are our top priority and we take all customer feedback very seriously...At the moment, we are doing everything we can to establish the facts of the matter."
