Normal operations resume 9 hours after evacuation
At 1:55am, CAG announced on its smartphone app that its airport will resume normal operations at 3am on Wednesday (May 17)

Changi Airport Terminal 2 was closed for the safety of all passengers & visitors after a fire broke out in a room with air-conditioning equipment, Changi Airport Group said in a media release late on Tuesday (May 16) night.

The entire terminal was evacuated after the fire alarm was triggered at about 5:40pm, with about 40 flights at T2 affected and 6 people requiring medical assistance, CAG said.

Slightly more than 9 hours later, the airport resumed normal operations at 3am on Wednesday (May 17).

Changi Airport Terminal 2 was evacuated on Tuesday (May 16) after a "small fire" broke out at a room holding air-conditioning equipment, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

3 people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation, and the fire was put out by SCDF officers using a hosereel jet.

According to Changi Airport officials, the fire alarm was activated at about 5:40pm due to "smoke coming through the air vents".

Singapore shuts airport terminal after fire; flights delayed

A fire broke out Tuesday at Singapore’s Changi Airport, causing the closure of a terminal and lengthy delays as passengers and flights were moved, officials said.

The airport said smoke began issuing from air vents in Terminal 2 and an evacuation of the terminal was begun.

It said it had identified the cause of the fire, but did not give further details.

Singapore Changi Airport Reopens Terminal After Fire Is Put Out

Singapore’s Changi Airport resumed operations at Terminal 2 after a fire prevented aircraft from using the facility for about five hours.

The “all clear” sign has been given and the terminal will reopen with some arriving flights, the airport said in a Twitter posting about 11 p.m. local time. Sixty-four arrivals and 61 departures had been delayed at Changi, according to FlightStats.

Flight operations were affected after a fire alarm was activated about 5:40 p.m. because of smoke coming out through the vents, the airport said. All flights from that terminal had been moved to Terminal 3 while the fire was put out.

Changi Airport staff are evacuating folks out of Terminal 2’s departure hall right now, with reports of smoke emerging with no verified origin.

A anonymous staff member of the airport informed Coconuts Singapore that a fire alarm went off around 5.30pm and everyone started evacuating out of the terminal soon after. They initially believed it was a fire drill, but the smell of smoke wafted in later on.

A roadblock has been set up, while police cars and fire engines have arrived at the scene.
