Woman, who recreated Lee Kuan Yew’s portrait on plate with chili sauce, makes confetti mural

A local designer, Catherine Leck, created a portrait on a plate using chili sauce that allegedly looks like Lee Kuan Yew some time in August 2014


Encouraged by the positive feedback from her friends, she took her art one step further.

She created a mural of Lee Kuan Yew using confetti, recorded it on video, posted it on YouTube and is now appealing for all talented people to do their own little creation with the #HappyBirthdayLKY hashtag in time for Lee Kuan Yew’s birthday on Sept. 16, where the ex-prime minister of Singapore will be 91 years old.

Birthday wishes were flowing in from the public to mark former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew’s 91st birthday yesterday. The People’s Action Party (PAP) headquarters created a website to gather birthday wishes for him.

The site, called Happy Birthday Mr Lee Kuan Yew, shows a brief history of the minister mentor, leading to a Wikipedia page on his life. Going around on social media is also the hashtag #happybirthdayLKY.

Minister Heng shares photo of birthday celebration for Mr Lee Kuan Yew


Education minister Heng Swee Keat posted a photo on Facebook Tuesday evening, showing Mr Lee Kuan Yew attending a celebration put together for him by his former principal private secretaries and ex-staff members on his 91st birthday today

Mr Heng wrote on his Facebook page:

"Grateful to Mr Lee for making the time for his former PPSs and some staff to celebrate his 91st birthday with him tonight.


NETIZENS SPECULATE THAT LEE KUAN YEW’S 91ST BIRTHDAY PHOTO WAS PHOTOSHOPPED


The photo which has been circulating online from Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s supposed 91st birthday has raised some concerns after netizens pointed out that it looked photoshopped

The photo was first shared by Mr Heng Swee Keat on his facebook page and also used by Straits Times on their article about Mr Lee’s birthday.

Netizens had pointed out that the positions of the people in the photo looked unnatural and it was strange that the background was pitch black.

It was also pointed out that the three men in the photo seem to have a different colour background ‘halo’ around their heads.

Education Minister Heng Swee Keat responded last night to comments online about a photograph of former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew's 91st birthday celebration which seemed to have been altered

The photograph was uploaded on Mr Heng's Facebook page on Tuesday.

Responding to The Straits Times, a spokesman for Mr Heng acknowledged that some adjustments were made to the photo: "This was a personal photograph taken with a simple camera. The photograph had some glare in the background. An amateur adjustment was made to remove the glare."

The image showed Mr Lee with current and former staff. They included Mr Heng, who served as his principal private secretary from 1997 to 2000, and Singapore Press Holdings chief executive Alan Chan, who held that position before him.

PAP sets up website to gather birthday wishes for Lee Kuan Yew


The site Happy Birthday Lee Kuan Yew, publishes the well-wishes from social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google Plus.

Mr Lee's birthday falls on Tuesday, Sept 16.

Members of the public can visit its website at http://www.happybirthdaylky.org to leave a message.


Leaders offer good wishes to Lee Kuan Yew on his birthday

Singapore's former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew "looked well and sharp" as he turned 91 on Tuesday (Sep 16), said Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

Mr Goh posted on Facebook that he dropped by Mr Lee's office to wish him "Happy birthday" and found him dressed smartly in his casual red jacket. Mr Lee spoke with a strong voice, he said, and was getting ready for Chinese lessons at the time.

"I cannot help but marvel at the spirit and fight of The Singapore Lion. More good years to you, Mr Lee," Mr Goh wrote.
