World reacts to Paris attacks

Adopting the Tricolore, the colours of French flag

Prominent landmarks around the globe are turning blue, white and red, otherwise known as the Tricolore, representing the national flag of France.

This show of solidarity comes in the wake of the Paris attacks on Friday the 13th, where an estimated 150 or more were reportedly killed in a spate of shootings and explosions across the French capital at night.

Even as the sails of the Sydney Opera House will be lit in the colours of the French flag on Saturday night in a show of solidarity to Paris, here are some countries around the world that have already taken initiative to do just that:

One World Trade Center, New York

Dublin, Ireland

As the Eiffel Tower went dark after Friday’s bloody terrorist attacks in Paris, landmarks around the world lit up in the French national colors—red, white, and blue—to show solidarity with victims. Reports estimate that some 127 people may have been killed.

In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer was doused in the three colors, generally taken to represent France’s tripartite, revolutionary motto: liberté, egalité, fraternité.
